Man With Migraines More Likely To Have Depression

Patient with chronic headache, specifically migraines, are much more likely to be depressed, feel weary, and have a host of other strict physical symptoms, according to a clinical research published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The medical research involved 1040 patients who buy seroquel at headache clinics in six states. Of the women tested, 545 reported episodic headache (less than 15 headaches per month) and 439 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the patient were diagnosed with migraines.

The clinical investigation found patient with chronic headache were four times more prone than those with incidental headache to report symptoms of major Major Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also five times more predisposed to report a high degree of symptoms depended to headache, pain or puzzle during intercourse.

Among people tested with severely disabling migraine, the medical trial found the likelihood of major Major Depression increased 32-fold if the patient also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms can stir up or be a manifestation of major Atypical Depression in people with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy topamax and Manic Depression should heighten pain perception,” said clinical trial author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This relation between migraine and major Psychotic Depression suggests a prevalent neurobiology.”

Tietjen says medical research are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Manic Depression can be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Indifferent of what’s causing the link between migraine and Psychotic Depression, psychiatric disease such as Psychotic Depression complicates headache treatment and can rouse poorer outcomes for headache management,” said Tietjen.

The clinical investigation was countenanced, in part, by the American Headache Society, which judges 18 million American patient suffer from headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 20000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to improving women care through instruction and clinical study. A neurologist is a physician specialized on monitoring, curing and managing diseases of the brain and nervous system such as apoplexy, Alzheimer’s disorder, epilepsy, Parkinson sickness, and multiple sclerosis.
